An ode to RotoSound strings

RotoSound 10's: I love these things.

Hi there.

This is just a brief note to say that RotoSound 10's (in that attractive yellow cardboard box) are some dynamic, lean, lanky and awesome electric guitar strings.

I recently declared them The Official Strings of My Gibson/Epiphone Guitars.

First of all, they're made in England, which -- whether you like England or not (and I do) -- you must admit is pretty cool in this era of everything imaginable being made in China. Way to go, USA!

Second, the nickle roundwound 10's (again, yellow box) are nice and bright and springy and soft and comfy to the touch. When you combine that smooth, springy feel with the uber-low action of a much-loved Gibson Les Paul, you're coming pretty close to perfection -- or at least to a state wherein things have been arranged so that your task is made as easy and enjoyable as possible.

I associate certain guitars with certain brands of strings. My Martin gets Martin 11's with a wound G. My 50th Anniversary Fender Strat gets D'Addario Flatwound 11's (Reverb grabs flatwound strings better, my friends!).

My other Strats (and Teles) get roundwound GHS, Dean Markley or D'Addario 10's (the brands associated with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Lee Vaughan in the 1980s).

Gibsons and Epiphones get RotoSounds because I associate the Les Paul with the British blues boom of 1966, so -- obviously -- that guitar should get British strings, no? The Casino, too, of course, is famous because of three Beatles, so it needs British strings!

Anyway, just a brief note about strings and yellow boxes ...
